Why Some College Students Take Summer Courses 1

Many of us think of summer as a time for fun, vacations, family, and just relaxing in general. So why do some college students take summer classes? Here are some of the top reasons to get credits during the summer months.

  • Catch up (or get ahead) on credits – If you are falling behind on the credits you need to graduate in four years, the summer is a great time to make up a few classes, so you get back on track or even a little bit ahead.
  • Access to popular classes – Some classes are tough to get into because they are very popular. With fewer students on campus during the summer, it may be easier to get into the classes you want, rather than having to settle for what is left.
  • Smaller classes – In summer, classes may have fewer students. This could allow you more time in the classroom setting to ask questions or more one-on-one time with professors who have fewer demands on their office hours.
  • Fewer distractions – With many other students home for the summer, you may find it easier to concentrate. That could make this a good time to take some of the more difficult classes in your curriculum.
