Visiting several of the colleges that you intend to apply to can be a way to get a better handle on which schools you are most excited about attending. You may even find that it changes which schools you most hope to be accepted by. But when is the ideal time to visit a college? Here are a few tips:
- You want to visit a college while school is in session – This will give you the best feel for campus life and could give you the opportunity to meet faculty or students who can help make your decisions easier. Be sure to speak with some students about their courses, ask how it was transitioning from high school to college, and inquire about daily life at the university.
- Take the tour – In-person tours are finally coming back at many colleges. This is a great way to let the school market its finer features to you. During the tour, you should get to see the dorms, bookstore, cafeteria, library, fitness center, financial aid office, career center, and other facilities.
- Be sure to visit the departments you are most interested in majoring in – The tour can’t show you every department, so you will want to ask about and visit the departments that are the most relevant to your decision.
