plan-college-visits-tips

If you are in your junior year of high school, this spring is the ideal time to be visiting colleges. A sophomore needs to be thinking about which schools to visit next year. Here are a couple of tips to help you nail the college visitation experience, so you can make good decisions when application season rolls around.

  • Budget wisely – You can’t afford to travel to every school on your list, so you need to choose accordingly. While it may occasionally make sense to check out a reach school in person, unless it is nearby, you may want to save your visit budget for more likely scenarios (match schools).
  • Visit different types of schools – You probably have a minimum of nine schools on your list (and maybe quite a few more). You can’t visit them all in person, so try to visit different types of schools. Find one public school to visit, one private, one city, one rural, etc.
  • Prepare questions to ask – At the school, you may have some Q&A sessions, or you may have time to speak with some students or even a faculty member or two. Have questions prepared in advance so you get the answers you need. Remember that everyone you talk to will probably be very busy and only have time for one or two quick questions.
