When you mention the cost of college, the mind of the average person goes right to the tuition cost. Of course, that is usually the primary cost of attending a university. However, paying for the courses themselves is only a part of the picture. Here, we will discuss some of the other main costs you need to factor in when preparing to pay for a university degree.

  • Room and Board – Whether you get your food and housing on or off campus, this will be another considerable expense. On-campus may actually be more expensive for your room, but remember that your food is likely to be included and that living off-campus can add daily travel costs.
  • School Supplies – Besides the pricey books you will have to buy for each class, you may also need to get a new backpack, notebooks, pens, pencils, paper, folders, and other things that are not provided.
  • Additional Fees – Check with the college to see if there are parking fees or other campus fees that you will have to pay on a regular basis.
  • Miscellaneous Expenses – You may need a laptop or other electronic devices. Your room may require appliances, sheets, towels, and the like. You also want to think about monthly recurring fees, such as a smartphone bill.
