College tours are essential to the college research phase of getting ready for further education. However, the number of schools you can visit will likely be limited due to both time and financial reasons. The good news is that more schools have a quality virtual tour (at least, something good came from the pandemic).

If you need to do some virtual tours and want to get the most from them, here are a few tips to help:

  • Learn more before deciding which schools to tour virtually – If the university’s idea of a virtual tour is letting you watch a prerecorded video, there’s no point in doing the tour. Do it in person if you are really interested, or just do additional research online.
  • Prepare your surroundings – You don’t want to miss key elements of the tour because of interruptions by family or friends. Make sure everyone knows you have a college tour, put a do not disturb sign on your door, and set your mobile devices to a setting that will allow you to focus.
  • Screen-record the tour – If you do get interrupted or even if you have to make an untimely bathroom visit, recording the tour can allow you to catch up on whatever you missed.
