letters-of-recommedation-tips

Depending on the college that you are applying to, you may need one or more letters of recommendation to attach to the application. This means you could need quite a few of these letters, even if some meet the criteria of multiple applications. Here are a few tips when it comes to asking for college letters of recommendation.

  • Ask the right people – You want to people who will both write a good letter of recommendation for you and who fit the description of who the letter needs to be from.
  • Be one of the first ones to ask – You don’t want to miss out on getting the best person to provide a letter because they are already booked by too many others. You also want them to have time to think about what they will write so you get the most thought-out letter possible.
  • Explain what you need – If the application asks for the letters to provide specific information, be sure to let the person know so that they provide what you need.
  • Be grateful – Don’t forget to thank the person both right away when they agree to write the letter and later on when they provide it.
  • Don’t get upset when someone says no – If someone says no, they probably have a good reason, and you are better off getting the letter from someone else, so there is no reason to get upset.
