You do great in school. In fact, you have recommendations from teachers showing how hard of a worker you are and how good of an understanding you have of various concepts. The only problem is – you freeze up when it’s time to take a test. That can be a particular issue when standardized tests like the SAT are involved. How can you conquer your anxiety and get the score you deserve?

Here are some of the best tips for kicking test anxiety to the curb!

  • Sleep is essential – Any preparation you do for a test has to be over well before you lay down the night before the exam. A good night’s sleep doesn’t replace knowing the material well. But knowing the material may not overcome sleepiness. So no cramming!
  • Arrive early – The last thing you need is to have your nerves already ramped up from arriving at the last second and being worried about missing the test. Leave home early, arrive at the testing site early, and take time to acclimate to your surroundings.
  • Think positive thoughts – Negative thoughts about failure will produce the results you fear. Positive thinking will help you to perform your best, so envision yourself being successful.
  • Read each question carefully – It’s not worth it to rush and get easy questions wrong, so be sure to read each question carefully.
