While in-person tours are preferable for your top college options, there may be varying reasons that you can’t attend every college you want to in person. The good news is that virtual tours were made better than ever out of necessity during the pandemic, so you can still get a pretty decent idea of what life may be like at a university from the comfort of your own home. Here are a few tips to help you get the most from your virtual college tours.
- Don’t over-schedule – It can be overwhelming to take too many tours, even if they are virtual. Schedule in-person tours for your top choices, and then schedule a few virtual ones. Don’t schedule one after another, either. You want time to reflect on each experience individually.
- Research the format – There are some virtual tours that are interactive, and others are just prerecorded videos (or a combination of the two). Knowing what you will get in advance allows you to plan for which schools to tour in this manner.
- Record the tour – Sometimes, things happen fast, and you may want to review a point. If you have a screen recorder, you can watch the tour back (at least the parts you wanted to see again).
- Create the right environment – You don’t want to miss things during your tour due to distraction.
