The college application process can be pretty stressful. Visiting the schools is the fun part. But that doesn’t mean you want to wing it. Here are a few tips to help you plan your college visits so as to get the most benefit from them.
- Go when college is in session – You want to see what real life is like at the college. You can only see that if the school is in session while you are there.
- Talk to a few students – Sure, the kids at the college are going to be a year or two older than you, but if you catch someone who isn’t running to beat a bell, you’ll probably get some honest info.
- Introduce yourself to the admissions office – There will usually be a sign-up sheet. Make sure you get your name on that list. It shows how interested you are in the school, and the admissions office will remember who really wants it most when the applications start pouring in.
- Tour and wander – You want to take the campus tour to see all the highlights, but if you are allowed to wander a little on your own, that can give you a chance to get a feel for real life at the school and not the pretty picture they paint for you on the official tour.
