college-majors-careers

Choosing a major can be difficult when you are still in high school. This is far more than a grandparent asking what you want to be when you grow up. This is about selecting your course of study that will ultimately lead to you having the knowledge necessary to join the workforce in your chosen field. With that in mind, researching what you want to do after college may be the best way to determine what you will want to study while you are in college.

Here are a few career research tips:

  • See if there is a growing need for that type of work – An increasing need for workers means there should be entry-level jobs available to you right out of school. Otherwise, you could end up with loans for a degree but no work opportunities.
  • Research entry-level salaries – Will the position you can occupy at a company right after graduation pay enough to support your daily needs while also paying back your student loans?
  • Interview workers in that industry – Find out if they enjoy what they do, if they find the work fulfilling, or if they have any regrets about choosing that career.
