Test Vs. Test Optional Vs. Test Blind Colleges 1

Standardized testing was once at the heart of a student profile when it came to college applications. Now, things have changed a little, and only partially due to the issues that arose trying to get testing done safely during the pandemic. Of course, with the new updates to some standardized tests, things may change again, so you need to research what each school wants.

Here are the three ways colleges may respond to standardized testing.

  • Test – There are many schools that still require standardized test scores to be included in the application. You may be required to include your score from one test or from more than one, so be sure you know which scores a school requires so that you take the right tests and submit the correct results.
  • Test Optional – Test optional lets you decide if you want to include your test scores. If you did really well, it is a good idea to include them. Leaving the scores out may cause the admissions officer to think you either didn’t take the test or that you got a bad grade, and that’s why you are leaving it out.
  • Test Blind – These schools are committed to not taking standardized testing scores into account no matter what. Sure, you can still add them to your profile. However, the school’s official stance is that they will ignore the test scores when making their final decision on the application.
