A strong student profile can be what makes your college application stand out from the crowd to admissions officers. With that in mind, we want to give you a basic list of things you don’t want to miss when you are developing your student profile.

  • School Clubs – Extracurriculars, especially when related to your major, show that you are a motivated learner. Colleges are looking for motivated students who will get involved on campus and are dedicated to getting a solid education.
  • Internships – Whether you get paid or not, an internship looks great on your profile. It shows you’ve already gotten your feet wet and are making real-world connections that could help you to find a job after college. Universities love being able to boast that graduates are finding work quickly, even if they did all the legwork themselves.
  • Volunteer Work – Volunteer work shows that you are willing to use your free time for the good of the community. Again, if you can volunteer to do something related to your major, that’s a plus. But don’t underestimate the value of charity work.
  • Certifications – If you’ve taken any courses to earn certificates, this will show that you are already on your way to having marketable skills. Once again, schools are looking for students who are going to get into careers and make the university look good, so any course certifications are a plus.
