While many schools are still “test optional” as far as SAT scores are concerned, most students still intend to take the test, especially if you don’t know what the schools on your list will require next year. While SAT scores don’t hold the same power that they did even just a few years ago, top scores could secure you that spot you are looking for at an exclusive school.
So how can you be sure to get your best score? Some students turn to SAT prep courses. Here are a few things you should know.
- Free courses – Not everyone can afford to pay for SAT test prep, and that’s why free courses exist. A perfect example is Khan Academy, a non-profit that offers all sorts of courses, including SAT test prep. Organizations like this rely 100% on donations to exist.
- Paid courses – These courses can range from hundreds to thousands of dollars depending on the type of course and the length. It’s a good idea to take the PSAT first, so you know where you stand and how much assistance you will need. This can allow you to choose a course that fits in with both a student’s needs and the family’s budget.
