Researching Colleges - How to Get in Touch 1

There may be times during your college research that you need more information than you have access to in order to make a good decision. If this is the case, you will want to try and get in touch with someone at the college who can answer your questions. Here are a few tips so that you can handle this the right way.

  • Do research on the college’s website before contacting anyone – The last thing you want to do is annoy the person who receives your correspondence because you asked a question that is on their FAQ or is answered clearly in their website content.
  • Get in touch with the right individual – There may be a different contact email based on what your question is about. The same person won’t be able to answer an admissions question, a financial aid question, and a query about your chosen major.
  • Get right to the point – Remember that you are writing to a busy person who probably spends more time than they want reading and answering emails, while still having many other responsibilities. Keep your email short, and thank the person in advance for taking the time to read and respond.
