If you really want to find the best summer program for you, one of the best ways to narrow down the daunting number of courses out there is to decide on the categories you are interested in. Then, you can search for the best programs within that category.

Here are a few examples of the programs you can find after you narrow down your search results to the subjects you are interested in studying:

  • Medicine – The Stanford Medical Youth Science Program is a highly sought-after medical program for high school students. The course lasts five weeks, there is no tuition fee, and you get a stipend for your research! However, keep in mind that only 24 students are selected each year.
  • Journalism – The Princeton Summer Journalism Program is sure to be on the radar of any aspiring journalist. Again, the program is free but very selective – only 40 students are invited each summer! You have to demonstrate a strong interest in journalism and maintain a 3.5 GPA just to apply.
  • Science – If you want to get a jumpstart on a career in science, the RSI program at MIT is a good place to begin. It’s a six-week program, and it’s free (are you seeing a theme with some of these top programs?). It’s also very exclusive because you will be mentored by accomplished scientists, so there are limited spaces each year.
