Committing to a College- The Final Step
By Kristen Wiley

Now that all college decisions have been released to seniors, the time has come to make your final choice on where you will enroll for the Fall!  First, congratulations on making it to this step of the process.  You have put forth a lot of hard work over the last several months, and now you are one step closer to college.

As you look at all of your well-deserved acceptances, there are a few key things to consider. As you narrow down your list, now is a great time to consider the following:

  • Make a Pro/Con list— consider all of your preferences: location, cost, program, academic opportunities, community, academic supports, etc. Ensure you are thinking about the various factors that will make up your complete college experience.
  • Attend Admitted Students Day– this is a special event designated for all admitted students to visit campus and celebrate their acceptance in a new way before making their final decision. Students and parents will have the opportunity to:
    • Explore campus again (or for the first time)
    • Ask questions specific to housing, academic programs, and anything else you have not had answered up to this point
    • Meet with the financial aid office
    • Meet other admitted students
  • Talk to your College Counselor! Your counselor is here to help you weigh all your options as you close out your process.  We also understand making the final decision can be one of the most difficult steps.

After you have made your decision, you will be required to submit your deposit by May 1st (unless otherwise stated by the college). You will also be asked to sign up for Freshmen Orientation. Please be sure to check all email communications from the colleges to ensure you do not miss important information and the next steps.

As always, your College Counselor is here to help. Congratulations!
