How to Write a College Application Essay that Really Pops 1

Imagine what it must be like for a college admissions officer reading essays all day long. A lot of them probably start to blur into one boring jumble, especially since there may be a bunch of canned “professionally written” essays in the bunch. A quick point of advice: if someone is willing to help a student cheap by writing college admissions essays for them, they aren’t a professional. Real writers can make their money writing legitimate content.

If you want your essay to be a bright spot in the admission officer’s day (a good way to get your application accepted), here are a couple of tips.

  • Don’t repeat your application – The essay isn’t a place where you brag about the things you have in your student profile. That’s what the rest of the application is for. Here, you should speak about something that didn’t come up anywhere else on the application.
  • It doesn’t have to be about an experience unique to you – Sometimes, we try so hard to find a unique moment in our life that it almost becomes boring because everyone is pulling from unique experiences. The key is to tell the story from your perspective and to write about how you personally were impacted by the experience.
