College admissions officers have to pour over thousands of applications in order to select those who will fill the remaining spots for the next school year. How can you show your real self in your student profile and display your unique personality? Here are a few tips:

  • Do some volunteer work – Volunteer work shows that you care about the community and not just your own advancement, but the type of volunteer work you choose to do can tell even more about you. So be sure that whether you volunteer at a soup kitchen, tutor kids who need help in school, spend time at an assisted living facility, or do anything else on a volunteer basis, you include it in your student profile.
  • Start your own business – Colleges love students with an entrepreneurial spirit. The type of business you form and how successful it is can say a lot about you. At the very least, you show that you have the courage to put yourself out there and try to make it on your own.
  • Play a sport – Unless you have the athleticism to become a professional athlete, you may think that sports have nothing to do with your student profile. However, any type of team sport can show that you work well with others and can follow the direction of a coach.
