You are going to be writing a lot of essays when you start filling out your college applications. How can you stand out from the crowd? Your college applications essay needs to be unique to you. Here are a few ways to ensure that happens.
- Write it yourself – This should go without saying. Unfortunately, some people who either feel they are not good writers or are just lazy will try to find someone on the Internet and pay them to write essays. Not only is this cheating, but it’s unlikely to help you stand out. You just end up sounding like everyone else who paid a pro to write for them.
- Write about yourself – The essay is usually going to have to be about an experience you had. Since the essays are short, narrow it down to an instant in time. Discuss how that moment impacted your life. Don’t feel like you have to include every detail.
- Write from your perspective – Unless the instructions say otherwise, write it in the first person. It makes the essay more personal and gives you the opportunity to express your emotions and what you experienced in real-time for the reader.
