There are many elements to a successful study period, and we’ve often mentioned in the past the need to study in small increments to get the best benefits, as opposed to cramming. Even when you are taking short study breaks, be sure to create the right study environment. Set your mobile devices to a setting where you won’t be distracted or interrupted. If you are only studying for 20 or 30 minutes, you shouldn’t have to stop to send a text or reply to an email.
Here are some of the best times to fit in your test prep.
- In the morning – Most people retain information well in the morning. If you like to enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning and get the day started slow, use that time for a little bit of study. You can just take 20-30 minutes.
- Lunchtime – Whether it is a lunch break at work or school, just take 20-30 minutes to review your study materials. You may have to sit in your car to avoid distractions from coworkers or classmates if there are too many distractions where you normally eat.
- Before bed – If you haven’t gotten in a full hour of study yet before you turn in for the night, it’s time for one more 20-minute study period.
By following a schedule like this, you can easily set aside an hour a day for study when you have a big exam coming up. That will allow you to get sufficient sleep the night before the test.
