If you decide that a college summer program is the right way to spend your summer, then the next step is to find the best one to meet your needs. Here are a few tips to help you get started.
- Location – If the summer program is in person, is it feasible for you to make the trip and stay for the length of the course? Keep in mind that, since the pandemic, the number of online summer programs has increased. And don’t assume that “online” always means “inferior.” You may find that you can take the best course for your needs from the comfort of your own home.
- Cost – Not all summer programs come with a fee, even some of the really good ones. So don’t assume “more expensive” is synonymous with “better program.” You may find that the right program for you is free as long as you qualify to get in.
- Field of Study – Of course, you will want to be sure that your summer program is in line with your chosen field of study, especially if it offers credits and you want them to count toward your degree.
- Exclusivity – Programs that are exclusive are usually going to be more impressive on your student profile than ones that allow many people to join or just the first people who sign up and pay.
- Compatibility – If you are getting credits, make sure they are valid at the universities you are applying to.
