Besides visiting universities in person – which we highly recommend – you will also want to research schools using the Internet. While the Internet can be a valuable tool for learning, you need to know where to look if you are going to try and determine which are the best colleges for you to apply to. Here are a few tips:
- Virtual Tours – The quality of virtual tours is much better than it used to be. Now, it is possible to have an interactive tour and get a decent idea of what life is like at a school. You can take advantage of this opportunity for schools that you can’t visit in person, perhaps because they are too far away or because your schedule for in-person visits is already full.
- Student Testimonials – Read testimonials from students who attended the college you are thinking about applying to. What did they enjoy about the program? What moved them to share their experience? Pay special attention to the testimonials of students who share your intended major to learn more about the program.
- Student Reviews – Students may review either the university or individual instructors. Pay attention to these ratings, especially when it comes to professors you are likely to have classes with.
