LinkedIn is an important place to make business connections. But how can you create an effective profile when you are still a student? Here are a few tips to produce a LinkedIn profile that will get the attention of everyone from college admissions officers to potential employers.
- Have a professional profile picture – What does that mean? It should be a headshot with a plain background (in a neutral color). People want to see your face to confirm they found the right person (even if your name isn’t very common).
- Create a captivating summary – Make sure you let colleges and employers know what you are looking for, but don’t get pulled into using a lot of overused buzzwords. Think too about keywords that someone may search for when trying to find a contact in the industry or field of study you are interested in.
- Fill in the experience section with the right content – You may not have a lot of work experience, but that’s okay. You can also include volunteer work, education, certifications, hobbies you have grown proficient in, language skills, and more. Get creative and show off what you have done and what you are able to do.
