Congrats on Filing the FAFSA - Now What

If you have already filled out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), what are the next steps you should take in order to make sure you receive as much assistance as possible? Here are a few tips:

  • Review – After completing the form, you will receive a confirmation page. On this page, you will receive an estimate of the assistance you can expect to receive. Please keep in mind that the actual amount will be determined by the school you have applied to. This is only an estimate based on the information you provided.
  • Check your EFC – Your Expected Family Contribution is the estimated amount that your family will be responsible for regarding your school. You can use this estimate to plan ahead and see what other sources of tuition you may need to look into.
  • Submit scholarship applications – If you even remotely qualify for a scholarship, apply for it. This is how you will make up part of the EFC without having to exhaust savings or apply for additional loans.
  • Start watching for offers – Remember that your offers will come from the individual schools, and they all have a different timeframe for when these numbers are released.
