Career Research Tips for High School Students

Are you tired of people still asking you what you want to be when you grow up, as if you’re not just a year or two away from graduating high school? The other reason you may dread the question is that you honestly don’t have an answer. That’s what we’re going to help you with today.

How to Research the Best Career Options for You

Here are a few ways that you can try to find the right job for you before you have to pick a major in college:

  • Think about what you want to do – Make a list of all the things you enjoy or are curious about. Some may not even be things that you know how to make a career out of, but that’s okay. This is just the brainstorming part.
  • Take a personality test – There are plenty of personality tests online that make suggestions about the sort of career that you may be geared toward. Be sure to find a reputable one such as Myers-Briggs. Then compare the careers your personality is geared toward to the ones you are interested in.
  • Research possible careers – Take the best options from your list and do some research. Find out what jobs are like in that field. Is there work in the part of the country you want to live in? Will you make enough money? What education do most employers require? Is the market expected to grow?
