high-school-club-student-profile

Colleges love to see high school clubs as part of a student profile. While it may not push you past another student who writes a better essay or has a better overall profile, it could be what gives you the edge over a student with otherwise similar credentials. Here are a few reasons:

  • It shows you have interests – Colleges are looking for students that take an active interest in things. If it happens to have something to do with your chosen field of study or career, that’s an even bigger bonus. But the key takeaway is that you’re out doing things when other kids are on social media and playing video games.
  • Universities are looking for productivity – Again, joining an afterschool club shows you are willing to use your free time to do things that are important. If you are willing to put in the extra work in high school, they assume you will do so in college.
  • Clubs teach you to network – Most young people today can network on social apps but struggle in IRL situations. High school clubs help you to create real-life connections, and those are going to be essential to your success during college and when you enter the workforce. The better you are at networking, the more likely the university will proudly be able to say, “Hey, we helped train that person!”
