- Know the material – Okay, so this may seem basic. But it takes research, and perhaps the help of a professional course, to understand what material will be on a standardized test and how to prepare well for it.
- Limit caffeine intake – A little caffeine may help you to be able to think clearly. But too much can increase anxiety. If you are not a coffee drinker, don’t start right before a big test. And certainly don’t overindulge, even if you are used to having a coffee in the morning.
- Practice breathing techniques – Box breathing can relax your body’s nervous system response to stress in just a minute or two. Practice the technique so you can use it if you start to feel yourself panicking on test day. It’s worth taking that minute or two of test time to ensure you are able to focus on the rest of the test.
- Get help – If your test anxiety has been a chronic issue, try talking about it with a loved one. If that’s not enough, you may want to see if a professional can help you work through your test-related anxiety.
