This month, we’ve covered tips to help you avoid student burnout and indicators that you may be experiencing academic burnout. Today, we want to wrap up this series of articles by giving you a few ways to recover from student burnout if you are currently experiencing it.
- Don’t ignore it – The number one thing to know about academic burnout is that it rarely just goes away on its own. So you have to take action to recover.
- Get help – The second most important thing is that recovering is a group effort. It’s difficult to do it alone. Even if you are just talking about your experience with a trusted friend or a family member, that’s crucial to your recovery.
- Practice self-care – You need to take a break from schoolwork and activities to do something for yourself that helps you decompress. Whether it is reading a fiction book, going for a hike, writing in a journal, or watching a movie, it’s time for a little self-care.
- Learn stress management techniques – The way stress affects a person physically and mentally is well-documented. From exercise and healthy eating to emotionally cleansing exercises like taking time to acknowledge your own accomplishments and successes, there are many ways to de-stress. Don’t forget to go back to step two and speak with a loved one.
