With the number of high school seniors heading off to college in decline, it’s a good idea to consider some alternatives to a university education. Here are some other solid options if you are not ready to head to a 4-year school this fall.
- Community College – You can start with a two-year degree. You’ll save some money on tuition and acquire credits that will transfer with you if you change your mind about a university later on.
- Trade School – Trade schools are also called technical schools or vocational schools. The courses may be shorter than college and focus on learning a specific trade rather than on an all-around education.
- Technology Programs – There are many courses that teach tech skills that target the ongoing digital revolution. This can allow you to fast-track yourself into a freelancing career in coding or another software development job.
- Take a gap year – You may want to take a year to work, move out on your own, travel, or just recover from a stressful high school experience. Just keep in mind that this option may affect your ability to find as many scholarships or to get into the college of your choice the following year.
