Harvard is certainly a newsworthy school in its own right, being one of the private colleges in the US that students fight the hardest to get into. However, there are two particular reasons that you will find Harvard all over your newsfeed this week.
- They’ve decided to hold all classes online for the 2020-21 school year – This is due to the current pandemic and is designed for the safety of both students and faculty. Does that mean no one will be on campus? No. Actually, some freshmen will be allowed to live at the school. However, all their class will be taken in their dorm room. Some news outlets have praised this decision, while others question why you would pay five times as much for Harvard as the University of Phoenix (an all-online university).
- They’re fighting a decision that would force out foreign students due to online-only classes – Regardless of the reason for the decision, it is affecting many students who may not be able to return home or who may find it too expensive or dangerous to return during a pandemic. As a result, Harvard and MIT have teamed up to try and block the decision in court, hoping to allow foreign students to remain on the roster this Fall.
