You don’t have to be a lawyer to get into a career path related to the field of the justice system. Here are four majors that will set you on a legal path that may better suit your personality and values.
- Paralegal Studies – You don’t even need a four-year degree to work in a law office and earn a decent salary. A paralegal major involves learning to do legal research as well as enhancing your writing skills.
- Police Science – If you want to work on the investigative side of things, this is a great major that can prepare you for a future in the police force.
- Forensic Science – Not all investigating of a crime happens at the scene. With this major, you learn to collect evidence from the scene in an appropriate manner and then analyze it offsite. If you want to help catch real criminals but aren’t interested in donning a weapon, this might be the career path for you.
- Corrections – Immense challenges face those who run and operate prisons and other correctional facilities. If you want to help rehabilitate prisoners, this is a good field to get into.
Of course, if you don’t have a career path picked out yet, but the justice system still appeals to you, Criminology, Legal Studies and Criminal Justice, and other liberal arts programs can help get you on the right track.
