3 Reasons Some Students Start at a Community College 1

For some, the idea of going to a community college isn’t like going to college at all. However, there are a few good reasons you may want to begin your college journey locally. Here are three factors that may help you to decide if this is the right choice for you.

  • Low-Cost – Community colleges exist to provide a less expensive education. For some students, this is the only way to afford college. If your chosen career path only requires an associate degree, you may not want to spend the money to go to a university for just two years.
  • Local – Especially during the pandemic, the concept of a school that is closer to home has become important for many students. This also keeps expenses down because you may even be able to enjoy staying at home while you are commuting to the local school.
  • Transferable – Starting at a community college doesn’t mean that your college experience has to end there. You can transfer some or all of your credits (depending on the school) to a university to work on your bachelor’s degree. In the meantime, you save a lot of money on those credits, and it is less costly if you decide to switch your major in the first year or two of school.
