11 Things You Need to Fill Out the 2020-21 FAFSA 1

If you still need to fill out the 2020-2021 FAFSA, it is time to get started as soon as possible. This is the number one way to get free money for college. If filling out this form seems like a dragon you have to slay, then this checklist will make it a little easier. Here are the 11 things you will want to have with you if you intend to fill out the FAFSA all in one shot. Keep in mind that this list is for US citizens who are considered a dependent student. The list may vary if this is not your situation.

  1. Social security card
  2. Driver’s license – If you don’t drive, don’t worry. This one is optional, but only if you don’t have one. If you do have a license, make sure it is with you so you can type in accurate information.
  3. Your federal tax return for 2018 – Remember, it is always the tax return from two years before. You won’t need 2019 until the 2021-22 form.
  4. Records for any income you were not taxed on in 2018
  5. Your W-2 forms for 2018
  6. Recent bank statements
  7. Your parents’ federal tax return
  8. Your parents’ records for any untaxed income from 2018
  9. Your parent’s 2018 W-2 forms
  10. Recent bank statements from your parents
  11. Business and investment records from your parents
